The innovative yet highly artisanal work of 60 international creators from 30 different countries unites in the venice design 2019 exhibition. open to the public from may 11 until november 24, 2019, the pioneering event coincides with the venice art biennale. once there, visitors are immersed within a setting that shares the experience of exploring the role of design in today’s society, and can actively interact with the creations.

located in palazzo michiel del brusà, just 250 meters from the rialto bridge, venice design 2019 transforms the historic venue into a place of innovative discovery. the exhibition is hosted by the european cultural centre, who use the space to showcase the work of artistic and creative practices. like venice design, each event investigates imperative contemporary issues as well as artistic development in the city.

as its fourth edition, the exhibition once again aims to bring together international, multidisciplinary projects. with the work of creatives from south korea all the way to chile, the showcase highlights global innovations that range from solutions for daily life through to consumer products and technologies. at the same time, however, the designs are all tributes to inter-disciplinary traditions. including intricate details and ancient techniques, this craftsmanship is exemplified to visitors from conception through to production processes.

each creative was selected based on how their work proposes and forms a dialogue with the public. the results enable the exhibition to become an immersive, engagement environment that presents challenging yet thought-provoking ideas. visitors are encouraged to participate and interact with the work; senses and perceptions are awakened, and reflections on important contemporary topics are stimulated. to further promote design in venice, guests are given city maps that list 42 local, independent craftsmen who can be discovered in the area.
